Australian rainbow coloured Pipe Opal
Rainbow coloured Australian Pipe Opal
This is a very beautiful piece of rainbow coloured Pipe Opal from outback Queensland, Australia. A lovely multi coloured opal with all the colours of the rainbow in the Boulder matrix material. A thin layer of matrix material lines the back of the opal. Condition as per photographs and the opal has been photographed against an Australian 5 cent coin similar in size to a US 1 cent coin for size comparison purposes.
This is a natural piece of Boulder Pipe opal. It is sometimes referred to as "tit" opal as it narrows to a point. It is assumed that pipe opal forms in the crevices created by roots that are decayed and filled with silica over time into the void. They can also be found with any number of additional pipes coming off the same piece.
