Sea Urchin Spine pendant

My take on the traditional stone cairn. Collected from the beaches of the east coast of Australia these naturally washed and tumbled sea urchin spines from the Pacific Ocean have been crafted with sterling silver wire and silver beads to create what I consider to be a unique and beautiful pendant.

From May to November humpback whales frolic off the beaches and headlands along the coast and I hand select each spine between glances seawards. This is my studio were I design my jewellery as I walk and contemplate everything and nothing at the same time.

I have drilled holes in each spine threading sterling silver wire and sterling silver beads to create a free moving pendant. You can turn one or more spines around to create a visually different pendant.

Specifications

Overall approximate measurements are: pendant weight 4gms, 48mm long, 46mm wide and 5mm deep.

This pendant comes with a Santoprene 18" or 46cm x 2mm cord with sterling catch and ends. Santoprene is often confused with PVC but is actually a thermoplastic elastomer having the same levels of flexibility and durability as found in natural rubber compounds but exhibits a longer life.

I prefer to use a softer cord than a chain as it is less abrasive on the sterling wire pendant bail.

My style is a take on the traditional stone cairn or stack of stones with a twist to dress the sea urchin spines up making them suitable for many an occasion. Perhaps a touch of Zen. Take care to avoid sudden knocks or drops on hard surfaces.

This is the actual pendant you will receive.

Thanks for taking the time to look and if you have time take a moment to view some more of my other interesting designs.
